the horror!

2.9.11

I ordered a few fabric basics this past weekend from fabric.com, as I often do. I've never been unhappy with an order from them and I always seem to be able to make it to the $35 that qualifies for free shipping. And based on this stack of fabrics, I'd be a pretty happy camper.

But then this was in the package as well:

the horror in my fabric package

Barf in my mouth! There's GLITTER all over it. (The photo does not do it justice. Actually, nothing does it justice.)

Here's the crazy thing though:

not.even.close.

I personally have bought YARDS of that Amy Butler Lotus print. This, however, is not that print. I know this as a fact.

Before I slander fabric.com though, they were very accommodating when I called to tell them about the problem. They're sending out my new fabric to me and told me I didn't have to worry about sending back the extra cut.

Now, what the heck do I do with glittery, fairy fabric?!

Comments

lol, the same thing happened to me at Fabric.com but they are always so good about sending out replacement fabric. I ended up with 2 yards of Gone with the Wind novelty fabric. Just donate it! I am sure someone out there would buy this fabric on purpose even if you or I wouldn't...

How funny! Seems that they like sending out extra novelty fabric!!
Love the pile of none glittery, fairy fabric though!

Ha! The same thing happened to me once, except it was glittery snowflake fabric - and I had also ordered Full Moon dots!! There must be a problem in that section of the warehouse. ;)

I had to start laughing when I read this post. I like ordering from fabric.com, but I have had that same problem twice now. I was ordering AMH Innocent Crush and got green flannel with rubber duckies on it. My last order I had an extra piece of green gingham fabric.

Ha! I had the same thing happen! I'd ordered some home dec fabric that was an orange floral and got some kind of very strange blue faux-suede instead. But here's the really funny thing- I am making a tooth fairy pocket for a friend's daughter and she requested fabric from that very line! I'd be happy to take at least a chunk of that off your hands, because the prospect of actually ordering it was hurting me... ;)

We have lots of coordinates for that fabric at Creative Quilt Kits! The Girl Scout troop we're working with would love that fabric...wink, wink, nudge, nudge!

Donate it to a quilt guild that makes charity quilts. Some one will love it.

Ditto to Colleen--GIVEAWAY! Or better yet, hold onto it until July and have a Christmas-in-July "Dirty Santa" swap! :-)

I think some little girl would love it in a charity quilt or pillowcase. One of the LQS's near me collects pillowcases for charity - lots of tutorials online if you haven't made one before.

wanna hear something even scarier? my mom has a huge painting in her house that looks almost exactly like that. it's a glittery fairy standing in the middle of a pink hibiscus. it's stylized almost exactly like that fabric...it's pretty terrifying. she bought it on a family vacation in hawaii when I was 12 and everyone in the fam (except mom) secretly loathes it, haha!

Have a giveaway! Or make a pillowcase for charity. :)

What is the name of the 4th print from the bottom? Red dots w/little birds? Love that one!

I've actually had the exact same thing happen to me with fabric.com. It took them two extra times to get me the correct Denyse Schmidt fabric. I ended up having to take pics of the fabric and explain it to them. Eventually they got it right. That is some scary fabric you got there.

Definitely not Amy Butler! Backing for a baby blanket? Pillow case to donate? Something for a 4 year old?

I'm in the give it away camp. I'm sure there's a little girl out there somewhere who is crazy about fairies and would love something made out of it. (But I just can't get over the glitter...)

Ya'll are funny. :D

Oh, my! That is nothing like Amy Butler. Eeks!

I recently opened my own fabric shop, so I don't have to deal with that problem anymore.

please don't barf in your mouth! I just quilted a darling quilt for a little girl with those fairies on it. pink green and white with the little fairies fussy-cut. sometimes a little glitter is needed. when my daughter went to prom this year the hair dresser sprayed glitter in her hair-do. next best thing to a tiara. you can see photos of the quilt & my kid on my FB page if you want!

OMG. I hope you don't barf too much, but I love that fabric. My daughter is nutzo over fairies and would squeal with delight if she had anything made with sparkly fairy fabric. What did you end up doing with it?
